The Chardonnay has an aroma of light stone fruit, pear, citrus and subtle nutty nuances, complemented by a fine reduction and chalky notes. The aroma remains deliberately restrained and clear, supported by mineral tension and a subtle, very elegant woody spice.
The wine presents itself as fresh, cool and finely balanced, with puristic elegance and a distinct mineral character. On the nose, light fruit, delicate creaminess and chalky notes combine, accompanied by subtle, unobtrusive woody accents.
On the palate, the wine is precise, powerful and underpinned by saltiness. The acidity is invigorating and clear, the structure taut and at the same time backed by a fine creaminess. The impression is concentrated, but not heavy - a Chardonnay with length and a pronounced limestone texture.
The grapes come from parcels on the Kleine Kalmit, one of the most exciting limestone formations in the Southern Palatinate. The soils consist of calcareous reef and marl deposits, formed from a primeval seabed.
The grapes were selectively hand-picked, gently crushed and pressed directly. Fermentation takes place spontaneously in barriques without pre-clarification, which preserves texture and complexity. 50% of the wine is aged in new wood, 50% in previously used barrels, followed by 9 months of aging on the full lees. The use of wood remains finely dosed and supports the puristic style of the wine.
