Elsheimer Bockstein Spätburgunder - Weingut Eppelmann - Organic

A powerful, profound Spätburgunder from one of Rheinhessen's most extraordinary Pinot sites. The Elsheimer Bockstein is characterized by Terra fusca – a rare, skeletal limestone soil with a high proportion of limestone fragments, which lends structure, minerality, and tension to the wines.

In the glass, the wine appears dense and complex with dark berry fruit, earthy nuances, and fine spice. The aroma is concentrated, yet precise and clear, with a mineral undertone and increasing depth with aeration.

On the palate, the Spätburgunder presents itself as powerful, structured, and mineral-driven. Fine-grained tannins provide grip, while the acidity ensures freshness and balance. The calcareous origin is evident in a firm, taut core and a long, spicy-mineral finish.

The grapes come from the steep core parcel "Im Bockstein", which offers ideal conditions for Pinot Noir due to its exposure and the exceptional Terra fusca soil. The low vigor of the soil promotes small berries with high concentration and clear typicity of origin.

After selective hand-harvesting, maceration took place with 25% whole cluster fermentation to deepen structure and complexity. Subsequently, the wine matured for 18 months in Burgundian barriques. Bottling was unfiltered. The wine is organically certified (Naturland) and vegan.

A mineral-driven, powerfully elegant Spätburgunder with clear origin, depth, and very good aging potential.
