Deidesheimer Kalkofen Riesling Grosse Lage - Weingut Mehling - Organic

The Deidesheim Kalkofen is one of the most renowned single vineyards in the Palatinate region (Pfalz). The vines grow on a small sandstone terrace at an altitude of around 150 m, characterized by loam, limestone, and marly clay. This combination produces particularly concentrated, aromatic grapes and gives the wine its depth, power, and mineral tension.

The Riesling presents itself as exotic yet precise, with aromas of ripe apricot, yellow fruits, and tropical nuances, accompanied by a cool, stony note. On the palate, it is creamy, dense, and complex, supported by ripe fruit, fine spice, and a long, intense finish that clearly reflects the power of the soil.

The grapes were hand-picked in mid-September in two passes, spontaneously fermented with vineyard-specific yeasts, and stored on the fine lees until bottling. This gentle development preserves freshness and precision while also allowing for depth and aging potential.
