The Obere Petershöhle is one of Deidesheim's lesser-known but extremely exciting sites. Located at an altitude of 238 meters, it is the highest vineyard in the district and can only be reached via a long path through the Palatinate Forest. The vines, over 44 years old, grow on colorful sandstone and loess terraces and are surrounded by forest on three sides. This sheltered environment creates a cool, balanced microclimate that promotes freshness, precision, and longevity.
The Riesling presents itself as ethereal and profound, with salty, zesty aromas, slightly smoky and earthy nuances, and a warm, calm underlying tension. On the palate, it is clear, precise, and structured, supported by fine acidity, mineral grip, and great inner calm. The style is cool, focused, and designed for the long haul.
Fermentation takes place spontaneously with natural yeasts. The wine then matured on the lees for 24 months, which gives it additional depth, texture, and aging potential. With 12% alcohol, it remains elegant and balanced. Its aging potential of 18–24 years underscores the ambition and class of this Grosse Lage site.
A cool, mineral-driven Riesling with great depth and exceptional aging potential, impressively showcasing the silent potential of the Obere Petershöhle.
