Michael & Thomas Andres — Grosse Lagen, Finesse, Pfalz
Whoever visits Weingut Andres in Deidesheim senses it immediately: here work people who know exactly what they want. At the centre stand the brothers Michael and Thomas, who took over the estate in 2015 in the third generation — with a clear vision: to make outstanding wines that unmistakably carry their origin.
Parents, family and a well-rehearsed team are present every day at the estate, in the cellar and at the tasting table — shaping the atmosphere as much as the wines themselves. Founded by the grandfather, developed further by their father Matthias, the estate is today led into a new dimension with new knowledge, international influences and an uncompromising commitment to quality. 28 hectares, top vineyards in Deidesheim, Königsbach and Forst, and the conviction that Deidesheim ranks among Europe's finest wine sites.
Two Soils — Two Characters
What makes Weingut Andres special lies literally in the ground. The Buntsandstone-influenced sites around Deidesheim give the Riesling its characteristic minerality — taut, salty, with a depth that stays with you. The more limestone-rich soils near Neustadt-Haardt are the ideal foundation for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir — with more texture, fullness and Burgundian elegance.
Every parcel is worked in minute detail and has its own personality. Bringing out these differences and making them tangible in the wine is what drives Michael and Thomas every day.
Organic as a Conviction
Sustainability at Andres is not a label — it is a deeply held belief. All 28 hectares are farmed organically, complemented by intensive manual work and a consistent refusal to intervene unnecessarily. In the cellar, the wines ferment spontaneously with natural yeasts and mature in classic large oak barrels — with the time they need to develop fully.
Michael and Thomas also think beyond today: biodiversity in the vineyard, soil health, natural water supply — topics that will be decisive for the future of winegrowing, and ones the two brothers are actively addressing.
Burgundy as Inspiration — Pfalz as Expression
Those who drink the wines of Andres recognise a signature style: vital, precise, pure. Inspired by the great wines of Burgundy — but consistently interpreted through the lens of the Pfalz. No copying, no chasing the mainstream. Instead: wines with genuine character that challenge without overwhelming.
Falstaff Weintrophy 2026 — Nominated Winery of the Year
The nomination for the Falstaff Weintrophy 2026 as Winery of the Year is a well-deserved recognition — but no surprise to us. We visit Michael and Thomas regularly and know their wines well. What they have built in such a short time is impressive. And it is far from over.
