A characterful Pinot Noir from old vines, grown on rare, calcareous terroir. The grapes come from Terra fusca – a deep, stony limestone soil that is found in only a few parcels in Rheinhessen and produces a particularly cool, precise, mineral style.
The wine shows aromas of red cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and wild herbs, accompanied by fine spice, slightly floral notes, and a subtle reduction. The aromatics are clear, energetic, and yet fine – typical of Pinot Noir grown on limestone. A subtle hint of wood from Burgundy barriques elegantly rounds off the profile.
On the palate, the Pinot Noir is juicy, taut yet silky, with precise, cool Pinot fruit and a mineral, limestone-influenced linearity. The fine-grained tannin structure, lively acidity, and elegant spice give it depth and length. The result is a Pinot with both dynamism and serenity – clear, straightforward, and authentic.
Terra fusca is a geological uniqueness of Rheinhessen: a mineral-rich, clay-limestone soil with a high stone content, deep and cool. Old vines root deep here and produce small, aromatic berries that lead to concentrated, structured Pinots. The calcareous terroir is clearly evident in the wine's salty freshness and exciting texture.
