The Freyburger Edelacker Riesling GG comes from the VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® Freyburger Edelacker in the Saale-Unstrut region – a steep vineyard with limestone and weathered shell limestone soils, which offers perfect conditions for terroir-driven Rieslings. The partly steep south-facing slopes store warmth, promote slow ripening, and give the wine its vibrant minerality and salty tension. This great site is one of the most traditional in northern Germany and an expression of the unique, continental climate of Saale-Unstrut.
The aroma opens with delicate herbal notes, ripe stone fruit, citrus freshness, and a clear mineral presence typical of the Edelacker. The nose can also show subtle hints of wild herbs, preserved lemon, and yellow peach, combined with finely integrated wood spice from the aging process. On the palate, the Riesling is dry, with lively, vibrant acidity, fine phenolic grip, and impressive structure. The minerality remains present through the long, precise finish.
The grapes were selectively hand-picked at high physiological ripeness. Spontaneously fermented in large wooden barrels and aged on the lees for about 10 months, the wine develops depth, complexity, and a dynamic interplay of acidity and fruit. After unfiltered bottling, it retains its clarity and origin, which characterize the Edelacker as a Großer Gewächs Riesling.
A precise, mineral-driven Großer Gewächs Riesling with clear fruit, lively acidity, and lasting length – an impressive expression of the lime-rich terroir of Saale-Unstrut and a versatile food companion with a delicious balance of tension and substance.
