Three Brothers, Their Own Style

The story of Weingut Seckinger begins in 2012 — and it is a true Pfalz success story. Their father Josef had grown grapes for renowned Deidesheim estates for decades. The three sons Philipp, Jonas and Lukas wanted more: to make their own wines, follow their own line, with their own hands. In their early twenties they took the leap into independence — even before the family vineyards came back from lease. One hectare, an old potato cellar, uncompromising conviction.

Today, a good fifteen years later, they are among the most exciting voices of the new Pfalz generation. Over 20 hectares of vines, bio-certified since 2014, with sites around Deidesheim, Königsbach, Ruppertsberg, Hambach and Maikammer. A family estate in every sense.

Petershöhle — the Signature Vineyard

If one vineyard tells the story of Weingut Seckinger, it is the Deidesheimer Petershöhle. A historic terraced site at the edge of the Pfälzer Wald, once abandoned, rehabilitated by hand by their father Josef over 30 years ago — and today carried forward by the sons. Stony Buntsandstein, forest-edge microclimate, almost exclusively hand-work possible. From this vineyard come filigree, mineral Rieslings that belong to the identity of the estate. And, recently, a Brut Nature Lagensekt that translates the potential of the site into a completely different style.

The Vineyards — Mittelhaardt and Southern Pfalz

Seckinger's vineyard portfolio reads like a map of the finest sites in the Pfalz. In Riesling: Petershöhle, Langenmorgen, Kieselberg (including the rare ungrafted parcel), Königsbacher Ölberg, 1 Tal, Herrgottsacker. In Chardonnay and Spätburgunder: Maikammer Kapellenberg and Hambach Schlossberg in the southern Pfalz, where limestone-rich soils provide ideal conditions for Burgundy varieties.

The soils range from Buntsandstein through loess and marl to limestone. No vineyard consists of a single rock type — instead they are always mixtures of marine, river, and slope deposits. That diversity is exactly what the Seckingers bring out in the glass.

In the Cellar — Natural, but Not Arbitrary

In the cellar a clear line applies: spontaneous fermentation with the grapes' own yeasts, long maceration times, ageing in large and small wooden casks, long maturation on the full lees, no fining, no filtration, no technical interventions. Some casks are topped up, others deliberately not — a practice known more from the Jura, lending the wines depth and texture.

The result are wines that don't fit into a category. Not classical, not "natural wine" — but Pfalz with its own voice. Dry, sometimes lightly hazy, always terroir-driven, vintage-typical.

Three Spätburgunders from the Southern Pfalz

With the 2024 vintage, the Seckingers have released their first complete Spätburgunder line — three Pinot Noirs from the limestone-rich vineyards of the southern Pfalz: a Maikammer Ortswein, the Hambach Schlossberg as Erste Lage, and the Maikammer Kapellenberg as Grosse Lage. Three stylistic directions from one geographic idea — and at the same time the next stage in the estate's development. Whoever doesn't want to miss the first vintages should be quick.

What We Particularly Value

At Wein & Nielsen we carry Seckinger's complete main line. The Riesling pyramid, from the Riesling vom Löss through the Herrgottsacker as Erste Lage to the five Großen Lagen — 1 Tal, Königsbacher Ölberg, Deidesheimer Langenmorgen, Deidesheimer Petershöhle, and the rare Kieselberg Wurzelecht from ungrafted vines. The Chardonnay trilogy from Maikammer — Linse Landwein, Maikammer Ortswein, and Kapellenberg Grosse Lage. The brand-new Spätburgunder line. And two excellent Sekte: the Pinot Rosé Extra Brut and the Petershöhle Riesling Brut Nature — a Lagensekt showing what the Petershöhle can also do in this style. A selection through which you can come to know the entire breadth of the estate.

A Personal Connection

Whoever visits Philipp, Jonas and Lukas in Niederkirchen senses immediately what makes this estate distinctive: three brothers pursuing their own idea of Pfalz wine — without teachers, without templates, without compromise. Devotion to the vineyard, trust in long maturation, and a clarity of intent you can taste in the glass.
