A puristic, deeply mineral Riesling Sekt that showcases the Immich-Batterieberg winery's signature in its most radical form. The Jour Fixe Brut Nature is made from old, mostly untrained Riesling vines rooted in high-altitude, barren slate parcels – primarily in the famous Enkircher Ellergrub and Oberemmel's Altenberg in the Saar Valley. These extremely steep sites yield small-berried, highly concentrated grapes with great aromatic precision and pronounced minerality.
Freshly opened, the Jour Fixe displays a taut, cool Riesling fruit with aromas of green apple, unripe pear, citrus zest, and slightly tart stone fruit. A spicy, slate-influenced coolness permeates the bouquet. With aeration, the Sekt develops increasing depth: orange peel, toasted walnuts, peach, mango, apricot, and delicate yeast aromas emerge. The nose is complex, elegant, and layered – a typical characteristic of long aging on the lees.
On the palate, the Jour Fixe is crystal clear, robust, and uncompromisingly dry. The perlage is fine and powerful, the acidity lively and taut. The minerality of the slate provides a salty tension, while the texture gains fullness and depth from barrel fermentation and lees aging. The finish is long, stony, and aromatically ripe – a Sekt with exceptional precision and energy.
The two origin parcels – Ellergrub and Oberemmeler Altenberg – are among the most traditional steep slopes along the Mosel and Saar. Their blue and gray Devonian slate soils store warmth, provide drainage, and lend the Sekt its pronounced mineral edge. The old vines yield extremely low harvests and form the backbone of this Brut Nature's particular concentration.
The base wines are spontaneously fermented in barrels, without fining or filtration. For the second fermentation, it is fermented in the bottle according to the traditional Méthode Champenoise and aged for a long time on the lees to develop complexity and creaminess. It is disgorged without dosage (Brut Nature) and without free sulfur – only a minimal addition of sulfur occurs at the beginning of the aging process. The result is a maximally puristic, unadulterated expression of Riesling and slate.
A precise, mineral-vibrant and exceptionally characterful Riesling Sekt, demonstrating how brilliant Brut Nature sparkling wines from old slate sites can be.
