Gimmeldinger Meerspinne Riesling trocken - Weingut Peter Stolleis
Sufficient stock! Ready to ship!
A precise, high-class Riesling from a historic parcel in the Mittelhaardt – interpreted today once again as an independent single vineyard site. The Gimmeldinger Meerspinne is one of the most traditional origins in the Pfalz and has been experiencing a renaissance in recent years.
On the nose, the wine is precise and finely reductive: floral notes, citrus, and cool fruity hints combine with subtle, slightly yeasty-hoppy nuances and an elegant. The aromatics appear deliberately focused, designed more for tension than opulence.
On the palate, the wine presents itself as taut and vibrant, with clear, mouth-watering acidity and pronounced mineral spice. The structure is linear and powerful at the same time, supported by saline depth and a cool, precise style. The finish is long, marked by dark minerality and fine spice – a Riesling with drive and substance.
The east-facing site benefits from nightly downwinds from the Gimmeldinger Valley, which preserve freshness and acidity even in warm years. The vines grow on limestone, overlaid with colored sandstone and loess – a combination that imparts structure, tension, and fine spice.
The wine is traditionally vinified: selective hand-picking, spontaneous fermentation with vineyard-specific yeasts, and aging in wooden barrels made from Pfalz oak. This creates a white wine that gains complexity and texture without losing precision.
A modern, terroir-driven wine with a clear style: less volume, more depth – cool, focused, and with an impressive sense of origin.
