Garage Caveau — Serious wine from a garage

The name says it all. Garage Caveau is literally a winery in a garage — founded in 2022 by Annette and Martin Fußer in Niederkirchen bei Deidesheim. The concept comes from France: vin de garage or garage wine - tiny quantities, maximum concentration, uncompromising quality. Caveau means "wine cellar" in French, but also "treasure vault". Both fit.

They make only as much wine as the garage can hold. Full stop. That keeps quantities tiny - around 4,000 bottles of Riesling a year - and means every vineyard, every harvest, every barrel gets their full attention.

The sites - big thinking, small bottlings

Garage Caveau farms parcels in the finest Mittelhaardt vineyard sites — even if quantities per site often amount to just a few hundred bottles. Forster Musenhang delivers Riesling from basalt soils, cool and slow-ripening at the edge of the Pfälzer Wald. Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten, with its 35-year-old vines, produces fine, nervy Riesling. Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad — one of the Pfalz's most celebrated sites — adds depth and minerality. Deidesheimer Langenmorgen and Petershöhle round out the range, both with a pronounced character from red sandstone and calcareous marl.

From Deidesheimer Mäushöhle comes a precise Pinot Noir grown on decomposed gravel and limestone soils. The site's name dates back to 1308 - recorded then as "Musehelde" - making it the oldest named vineyard in Deidesheim.

Craftsmanship - from vineyard to glass

Annette and Martin work in a radically natural way - and it starts not in the cellar, but in the vineyard. Every vine is tended individually, every grape picked by hand, every parcel treated as if it were the only one. In the cellar: spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, no fining, no filtration, minimal sulphur. What happens in the vineyard should be legible in the glass - and that's precisely the challenge. For them, working naturally isn't an ideology - it's simply the most direct route from the site to the glass.

The result is wines with a clear sense of place, precise acidity, and the salinity that only the Pfalz's top sites can deliver.

A personal connection

Visit them in their garage and you immediately understand what makes this project different: no distance, no marketing filter - just two people making wine with their own hands. The bottle you're drinking from right now? They filled and corked it themselves.
