Königsbacher Ölberg Riesling trocken Grosse Lage - Weingut Mehling - Organic
Sufficient stock! Ready to ship!
The Königsbacher Ölberg is one of the most distinctive Riesling sites in the Palatinate (Pfalz). The chalk-rich soils give the wine a tangible tension and mineral austerity. In mid-September, the grapes were harvested by hand in two selective picking rounds. Fermentation took place spontaneously with vineyard-specific yeasts, and the wine was consistently aged sur lie until late bottling in March of the following year.
The wine presents itself as chalky, edgy, and slightly smoky, with a clear salty character. On the nose and palate, Fleur de Sel, ripe peach, and green banana combine with earthy, stony notes. The fruit appears deliberately restrained, almost sketchy – supported by structure, pressure, and inner tension.
On the palate, it is dense and focused, with precise acidity, fine grip, and mineral pull. The aging potential is clearly palpable: a wine that doesn't want to please, but is allowed to grow. Not a loud Riesling, but one for tranquility, time, and attention.
With 13% alcohol, moderate residual sweetness, and an aging potential of 15–20 years, this Ölberg is a terroir wine with attitude that will continue to develop over the years – serious, characterful, and uncompromising.
