The Zscheiplitzer Himmelreich Spätburgunder 1G comes from the VDP.ERSTE LAGE® Zscheiplitzer Himmelreich vineyard in the Saale-Unstrut region, west of Freyburg. This steep vineyard with fine-grained loess loam over shell limestone retains water well and produces particularly rich, dense red wines. The south-facing aspect and the cool continental climate of the region favor a slow, even ripening of the Pinot Noir grapes, which allows for finely structured and characterful wines.
In the glass, the Himmelreich Spätburgunder displays a deep, brilliant ruby red. The nose is dominated by dark and red berries such as black and red cherry, as well as spicy and herbaceous nuances, complemented by balsamic, almost resinous notes and a hint of violet. On the palate, a juicy texture combines with powerful traction, precisely integrated acidity, fine tannins, and a mineral grip. The aroma is invigorating and complex, carried by fruit, spicy herbs, and a clear, substantial core.
The grapes are selectively hand-picked, spontaneously fermented, and bottled unfiltered to preserve the naturalness and depth of the terroir. The dry style and dense structure reflect the winery's aspiration to create Burgundy wines with clear origin and substance.
A structured, powerful Pinot Noir from Saale-Unstrut – with elegant fruit, invigorating acidity, and a distinct terroir character, possessing potential for further aging.
