A Silvaner with great depth and clear origins. The 40-65 year old vines on barren shell limestone impart impressive density and focused minerality to the wine. In the glass, it presents a luminous yellow and reveals complex aromas of smoky notes, ripe yellow fruit, robust herbal spice, and a delicate reduction, typical of the winery's old Silvaner sites.
On the palate, the wine is powerful, taut, and concentrated, yet precise and clearly structured. The distinctive shell limestone minerality provides grip, tension, and a stony depth, while the fine acidity keeps the wine fresh. The finish is long, dense, and mineral-driven. A Silvaner with substance and inner calm — not a loud wine, but one that draws strength from its balance.
The old vines are located in Sulzfeld plots on pure shell limestone, one of Franconia's most characteristic soils. The extreme barrenness and age of the vines result in low yields, deep root systems, and a pronounced concentration of aromas. This is precisely where the distinctive, salty-stony Silvaners are created, for which the winery is known far beyond Franconia.
The grapes come from certified organic cultivation, are selectively hand-picked, and then spontaneously fermented. Aging in large wooden barrels and a slow, gentle maturation phase in the cellar give the wine structure, elegance, and a finely creamy background without obscuring its minerality.
A strong-charactered, long-lived Silvaner with a clear sense of origin, demonstrating how much depth and expression old vines on shell limestone can develop.
