A great, profound Chardonnay sparkling wine with remarkable calm and precision. The Reserve 52 combines fine perlage, ripe fruit and distinct yeast complexity into an elegant, exciting overall impression. In the glass, it shows luminous golden hues, already hinting at its long maturation period.
On the nose, candied citrus fruits, ripe pear and peach unfold, accompanied by brioche, delicate vanilla and a subtle smoky note. The aroma is dense, clear and multifaceted – supported by long lees aging and characterized by restraint rather than opulence.
On the palate, the sparkling wine is creamy and precise, with finely integrated, lively perlage. The fruit remains subtly in the background, while structure, depth and balance dominate. The long lees aging gives the wine tension, length and a calm, harmonious texture right through to the lingering finish.
The Chardonnay grapes come from the vineyards of Merbitz near Dresden, where they grow on Pläner soil – a calcareous-sandy sedimentary rock that gives the sparkling wine its saline minerality, density and inner tension. This soil significantly shapes the wine's clear, structured style.
The base wine matured for twelve months in 500-liter wooden barrels before the second fermentation began. The sparkling wine then aged for two years on fine lees and a further 72 months in the bottle before being disgorged. The dosage is completely omitted – Brut Nature in its consistent form.
A great Chardonnay sparkling wine with depth, balance and origin, which stylistically emulates great role models, yet retains a clear Saxon identity.
