The Ilbesheim KALMIT is located on the south-facing slope of the Kleine Kalmit, a roughly 270-meter-high limestone hill with a unique geological character. The porous land snail limestone forms the foundation of this Grosse Lage, overlaid with loess, marl, and colluvial loam. This combination provides power and ripeness without sacrificing freshness. The full-day sun exposure of the south-facing slope allows for high physiological ripeness, while the lime-rich subsoil gives the wine its salty tension and precise structure. Since 2008, the KALMIT has been classified as an independent Grosse Lage – a prime example of lime-influenced Burgundy-style wine from the Southern Palatinate.

On the nose, the Pinot Blanc is fine and concentrated, with notes of yellow stone fruit, subtle roasted aromas, and a hint of flint. On the palate, it is salty, precise, and gripping, supported by a dense texture and mineral pressure. The spice is clearly integrated, the structure firm, and the finish long, intense, and characterized by chalky elegance.

The grapes were selectively hand-picked and gently processed. Spontaneous fermentation with minimal pre-clarification took place predominantly in used barriques, complemented by a deliberately late addition of sulfur. This restrained aging gives the wine depth, calm, and great development potential.

A powerful and elegant Pinot Blanc with clear origins, mineral precision, and remarkable length – a great Pinot Blanc from limestone, built for many years of aging.
