The Hambach Schlossberg Spätburgunder from Weingut Seckinger comes from an impressive site below Hambach Castle. Shaped by red variegated sandstone in combination with calcareous components, a terroir is created here that gives the wine its characteristic spiciness, depth, and a distinctive mineral signature.
The approximately 20-year-old vines of Burgundian origin deliver concentrated grapes with clear regional character. Especially the iron-rich variegated sandstone produces a slightly tart, cool minerality that clearly distinguishes this Spätburgunder from limestone-dominated sites.
In the glass, the wine shows itself deep, spicy, and characterized by dark elegance. Aromas of dark cherry, wild raspberry, and blackberry unfold on the nose, accompanied by notes of red earth, herbs, black tea, and fine spice.
On the palate, the Spätburgunder is juicy and at the same time structured, with fine tannins and noticeable grip. The spicy minerality of the variegated sandstone gives it tension and length, while the fruit always remains precise and cool. The finish is long, salty, and slightly earthy.
Vinification is carried out with great precision and a clear Burgundian orientation. The aging takes place in selected French barriques, including one barrel from Tonnellerie François Frères and one from Louis Latour, which give the wine additional depth, structure, and fine spice without obscuring its origin.
A Spätburgunder; spicy, focused, and characterized by cool elegance. The combination of structure, minerality, and freshness also gives it great development potential.
