Friedstein Pinot Noir GG - VDP.Weingut Martin Schwarz

A great Pinot Noir from one of Saxony's most renowned steep vineyards. The Friedstein is characterized by extremely steep slopes and lean granite weathered soil – a terroir that produces wines of high precision, mineral clarity, and inner tension.
On the nose, the wine presents itself elegantly and complexly: dark berries, ripe cherry, and fine spicy notes combine with a cool, smoky-stony accent that clearly refers to the granitic subsoil. The aroma appears concentrated but controlled and develops additional depth with air.
On the palate, the Pinot Noir is powerful and delicate at the same time. A lively, precise acidity carries the structure, while velvety, tightly woven tannins provide length and grip. The mineral tension of the Friedstein terroir clearly extends into the long, multi-faceted finish.
The Friedstein site is one of Saxony's most characteristic Pinot Noir parcels. The nutrient-poor granite soils limit growth and promote small, concentrated berries – the basis for structure, depth, and longevity.
The wine was vinified with 40% whole bunches and a 23-day maceration period, which gives it additional structure and complexity. The subsequent aging took place for twelve months in two 500-liter barrels, one new and one previously used. This combination provides fine spice and depth without overshadowing the origin.
A terroir-driven, elegant VDP.Grosses Gewächs Pinot Noir with great tension, built for long aging and sustained development.
