The Freyburger Edelacker Weissburgunder GG comes from the renowned VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® Freyburger Edelacker in the Saale-Unstrut region. This steep slope with a cool, dry continental climate, deep, weathered muschelkalk soils, and south-facing orientation offers optimal conditions for mineral-driven Pinot wines. The unique microclimate of the Unstrut valley promotes slow, even ripening, which gives the wine freshness, tension, and a clear structure.
The wine shows spicy notes, ripe exotic fruit, and chalky minerality in the bouquet, combining typical Pinot characteristics with a cool expression. Its juicy, ripe acidity and typical Burgundy richness ensure a balance between power and elegance, while fine yeast notes and present phenolics add depth and texture. On the palate, a clear, clean fruit and a subtle salinity emerge, reflecting the terroir.
The grapes were spontaneously fermented and aged in equal parts in large wooden barrels, stainless steel, and on the skins. Subsequently, the wine was stored on fine lees for about 10 months before being bottled – an aging process that gives it both structure and complexity without overshadowing the minerality. With a dry style and low residual sweetness, this Große Gewächs Weissburgunder presents itself as clear and precise.
An elegant, terroir-driven Weissburgunder that combines minerality, freshness, and texture – powerful yet finely structured, with great development potential and a clear origin from Saale-Unstrut.
