The Forster Ungeheuer is one of the most famous Riesling vineyards in the Palatinate (Pfalz). The soils here are exceptionally diverse, consisting of basalt, red sandstone, and limestone scree. This combination imparts both warmth and ripeness, as well as freshness, minerality, and depth to the wines. Only grapes from the second picking were used for this Riesling – particularly ripe, sun-drenched, and rich in extract.
The Riesling presents itself as fruit-driven yet cool, with aromas of peach, nectarine, delicate pineapple, and apricot, underpinned by mineral notes reminiscent of cool stone, fresh hay, and clear mountain streams. On the palate, the wine is juicy, precise, and powerful, with clear fruit, lively acidity, and mineral tension. Still young, but already very expressive, with great development potential.
The grapes were hand-picked in two selective passes. Fermentation occurred spontaneously with vineyard-native yeasts, followed by sur lie aging until bottling, which imparts additional texture, depth, and length to the wine.
A powerful, yet mineral-driven Riesling that showcases the grandeur of the Forster Ungeheuer and will bring joy for many years to come.
