Zeppwingert Reserve Riesling Grosse Lage - Weingut Immich-Batterieberg - Wein & Nielsen GmbH

2023 / 0.75 l

A powerful, deeply mineral Riesling from one of the winery's oldest and most distinctive parcels. The Zeppwingert is a tiny, steeply terraced single vineyard with dark grey Devonian slate, home to some of the oldest vines in the Mittelmosel – many well over 80 years old, some ungrafted. These old vines root extremely deeply, producing small-berried, highly concentrated grapes that lend the wines their exceptional intensity and longevity.

The Reserve Riesling from the Zeppwingert displays a powerful, dense aromatic spectrum: ripe citrus fruits, yellow peach, herbs, slate smoke, and floral nuances. The nose appears concentrated, serious, and deep, with that dark, cool spiciness typical of old vines on grey slate. Yet, the aromatics remain precise and elegant.

On the palate, the Zeppwingert is taut, powerful, and strikingly mineral. The texture is firm, salty, and supported by a clear, vibrant acidity. The wine shows high internal tension, phenolic structure, and impressive length. It is one of the winery's longest-lived Rieslings and possesses great aging potential. Reserve bottlings are only produced in suitable years and are consistently among the house's most expressive wines.

The Zeppwingert is located above Enkirch in a steep, narrowly parcelled terraced site with dark Devonian slate, which stores heat, drains water well, and gives the vines a cool, mineral character. The unique microclimate produces Rieslings that are often considered "more masculine," more powerful, and deeper than those from the neighboring Steffensberg or Ellergrub sites.

The grapes are strictly hand-picked, then spontaneously fermented with natural yeasts and aged in large oak barrels. Long lees aging ensures additional depth, complexity, and longevity. The Reserve wines are created with minimal intervention and maximum terroir expression.

A powerful, mineral-driven, exceptionally deep Riesling that reflects the essence of the Zeppwingert's old vines in its most concentrated form – serious, long-lived, and impressively characterful.
