Enkircher Steffensberg Riesling - Erste Lage- Weingut Immich-Batterieberg

A powerful yet finely balanced Riesling from one of Enkirch's most characterful south-facing sites. The Steffensberg is located directly behind the village center and is one of the striking terraced sites of the Middle Mosel. The vines stand on deep, copper-red Devonian slate soils, which ensure exceptionally good heat and water retention. This special terroir allows for quick, even ripening and produces concentrated but elegant Rieslings.

The wine shows a clear, ripe, yet cool Riesling fruit: peach, citrus, mirabelle plum, and subtle herbal notes, complemented by a smoky slate note typical of the Steffensberg. The nose appears open, charming, and powerful, without losing precision.

On the palate, the Steffensberg presents itself juicy, mineral, and powerful, with lively acidity and a firm, stony structure. The texture is dense but elegant, supported by good water supply and the warm microclimate of the site. The finish is long, salty, and spicy – a Riesling that opens early but has enough depth to develop further over years.

The pure south-facing aspect ensures maximum sun exposure, while the copper-red slate soils – a rare rock in the Mosel – lend the wine its characteristic spicy warmth and mineral tension. The combination of warmth, nutrient richness, and good drainage results in powerful, multifaceted Rieslings that work excellently both solo and as food companions.

The grapes are selectively hand-picked, spontaneously fermented, and carefully aged in stainless steel or large wooden barrels – depending on the vintage. The winery's puristic, reductive approach allows the terroir, origin, and structure to shine through clearly and unadulterated.
