Edenkobener Kirchberg Chardonnay - Weingut J.J. Berizzi

A characterful Chardonnay that combines fine varietal aromatics with striking minerality. On the nose, it reveals delicate yellow fruit, subtle citrus notes, and a hint of spice. On the palate, the fruit deliberately recedes into the background: green, herbal phenolics, clear saline minerality, and a very subtle touch of barrique shape the style. The finish is long, with notes of almond, anise, and delicate toasted aromas. With some air, the wine opens further and gains depth— a Chardonnay that impresses both in its youth and with considerable aging potential.

The Edenkobener Kirchberg vineyard is just a few minutes’ walk from the estate. This small, warmer site is characterized by sandstone and loess-loam soils, which give the wine structure, fine phenolics, and its mineral salinity. The sheltered location ensures optimal ripeness and produces Chardonnays that are both powerful and precise.

The grapes come from fully ripe, selectively hand-harvested fruit. After a short period of skin contact, they were gently pressed. Fermentation took place spontaneously in five barriques without prior clarification—the natural turbidity of the must supports depth, texture, and complexity. The careful use of oak remains subtle on the palate, adding structure and fine spice without overshadowing the minerality.

A Chardonnay with a clear signature, fine reduction, mineral drive, and great potential for development.
