Friedstein Chardonnay Gutswein trocken - VDP.Weingut Martin Schwarz - Wein & Nielsen GmbH

2023 / 0.75 l

A clear, taut Chardonnay that impressively reflects the complexity of the Saxon Elbe Valley. Its core is the Friedstein single vineyard in Radebeul (VDP.GROSSE LAGE®), whose barren granite soil lends the wine freshness, precision, and pronounced mineral tension. The cuvée is complemented by a small portion from the Merbitzer Bauernberge near Dresden (VDP.ERSTE LAGE®), where loamy soils with Pläner subsoil provide additional depth and texture.

On the nose, the Chardonnay is cool and focused with notes of citrus fruit, yellow apple, and a delicate stony spice. The aromatics remain restrained and precise, with a clear linear quality.

On the palate, the wine appears straightforward, mineral, and clear, supported by fine acidity and subtle creaminess. The salty minerality provides length and tension on the finish, without overpowering the elegance. The wine combines freshness with substance and inner calm.

The granite-influenced Friedstein provides structure and coolness, while the rare Pläner subsoil of the Merbitzer Bauernberge adds extra depth and balance to the wine. This combination makes the Chardonnay multifaceted and terroir-driven.

The wine was aged for twelve months in a mix of new and used wooden barrels, followed by six months of aging on fine lees in stainless steel tanks. This approach gives the wine texture and complexity without obscuring the clarity of the terroir.

A precise, mineral Chardonnay with elegance and a distinct origin profile, combining tension, balance, and good aging potential.
