A puristic, nimble Moselle/Mosel Riesling with a clear signature. The CAI Riesling comes from the steepest terraced vineyards of the Middle Moselle/Mosel, some of which have been organically farmed for decades. Many vines are up to 60 years old and are deeply rooted in the typical slate formations – a foundation for precision, minerality, and aromatic clarity.
The CAI Riesling displays fragrant, fresh, highly precise aromatics with notes of citrus, white peach, green apple, and fine herbs, accompanied by a subtle, Moselle-typical slate spice. The nose is delicate, clear, and invigorating.
On the palate, the wine is fresh, dry, lively, and surprisingly light. At only 10.5% alcohol, it shows the typical lightness of the Moselle without losing substance. The acidity is clear and vibrant, the mineral tension distinctly palpable. A Riesling that combines juiciness, elegance, and taut linearity – uncomplicated in the best sense, but by no means trivial.
The grapes come from steep parcels with blue and gray Devonian slate, which gives the wine its cool, salty minerality and fragrant, crystalline structure. These slate soils and the Moselle/Mosel-typical microclimate ensure lightness, high aromatic density, and the characteristic herbal spice.
Selective hand-picking, spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel and wood, long maturation on the full lees, without fining, without filtration – a minimalist approach that conveys the terroir authentically. The calm yeast aging gives the wine a fine creaminess in the background and additional texture.
A clear, light, and mineral Riesling that shows how much character a puristic estate wine from the Moselle/Mosel can possess.
